The Life That’s in The Blood

“Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.”— Hebrews 9:22 (NLT).

The blood is everything! When you slow down and sit with this truth, something shifts. The blood isn’t a metaphor in Scripture. It’s the very language of life. Leviticus 17:11 tells us plainly,“for the life of the body is in its blood.”Life is in the blood—God said that before science ever caught up. And because life is in the blood, redemption must come through blood. From the very beginning, God was teaching us that sin damages the soul. In Romans 6:23, He tells us that its payment is exceedingly high—for the wages of sin is death. This means that when we refuse to obey God and live by His love, we cut ourselves off from the life that is in Christ. That’s why every sacrifice in the Old Testament was pointing toward Someone—the Only One—whose blood held the power and life to cleanse the deepest stain of sin for all eternity.

This is where your understanding of Scripture deepens. The pure and perfect blood of Jesus is the hinge between the Testaments. You cannot comprehend the beauty, weight, and freedom of the new covenant unless you first see how God set it up in the old covenant. Every altar, every lamb, every priest stepping behind the veil was God preparing humanity to recognize a perfect sacrifice when He came. And when Jesus shed His blood—pure, sinless, divine—it didn’t just purchase our forgiveness. His blood opened the door for eternal life, and it restored something even deeper: the life of God flowing from His Spirit into our spirit. This is the restoration of what Adam lost, and the reopening of the divine flow that makes our transformation possible.

When we talk about “life,” we’re not referring to physical biology — we’re talking about the eternal life that exists only in Christ. The life in Him is the very life of God. And when we are born again, that life is imparted to us by the Holy Spirit. His Spirit becomes the source and power of our new nature. John 1:4 (NLT) tells us, “The Word gave life to everything that was created,” and Genesis 2:7 shows us how God placed that life inside humanity. “Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.” When God breathed His own life into Adam, it didn’t just make him physically alive — it infused his body and spirit with the divine life God intended for humanity. From the very beginning, we were created to live, to rule, to reign, and to walk in unbroken fellowship with God. Death was never part of His original design.

Sin entered the world through Adam, but the temptation behind it was part of the enemy’s strategy to derail God’s design. We see this clearly in the Garden of Eden. Spirits don’t have physical bodies, so Satan—a fallen spirit-being—operated through the serpent to speak to Eve. Genesis 3:1–5 (NLT) shows how the enemy twisted God’s Word and enticed them to choose independence over obedience.

God never removes free will. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil wasn’t hidden or fenced off; it remained in plain sight because love must allow a choice. And when Adam and Eve ate from the tree, Scripture says that “their eyes were opened,” and shame entered the human experience for the very first time (Genesis 3:7–10). Until that moment, they lived in innocence—experiencing only what God had called good—because evil had never touched their nature.

What followed was the first prophecy of redemption in Genesis 3:15 (NLT): “He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” Even in the middle of the Fall, God was pointing toward the blood of Jesus—the One whose sacrifice would undo what began in Eden. And this is why the blood of Jesus still matters right now. His blood didn’t just redeem humanity in a moment of history—it continues to carry the same life-giving power today. Hebrews 12:24 (NLT) tells us that the blood of Christ “speaks of forgiveness,” meaning His blood still has a voice. It still declares you forgiven. It still proclaims you free. It still announces that the life of God flows in you because of what Jesus did. When you think about the blood, you’re remembering the very source of your salvation, your identity, your transformation, and your eternal life. Everything God is working in you—every healing, every breakthrough, every soul-deep shift—is possible because the life that’s in His blood now lives in you. And that life will never lose its power.■
