Understanding God’s Plan, His Light, and His Unchanging Promises

We live in a world where almost everything God calls truth gets twisted, flipped, or pushed aside. But even when society moves in the opposite direction, God’s promises stand unshaken. His purpose has never slipped or stalled, and He doesn’t change His mind about what He’s spoken. Numbers 23:19 (NLT) reminds us, “God is not a man, so he does not lie… Has he ever spoken and failed to act?” If we want to shine with real truth in a dark world, we need to understand the heart of God in simple, everyday ways — what He wants for us, how He leads us, and how His Word shapes the life He designed us to live.

God’s Plan of Redemption Started in Genesis

From the very beginning, God revealed His plan to redeem humanity. Right after the fall, He spoke of the coming Savior in Genesis 3:15 (NLT): “And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” This was God’s first announcement of the One who would crush the enemy’s power. Revelation confirms this by telling us that Jesus is “the Lamb who was slaughtered before the world was made” (Revelation 13:8 NLT). Redemption was never a backup plan; it was always God’s intention. His heart has always been steady, loving, and sacrificial, and understanding this helps us read the entire Bible through the lens of Christ’s purpose.

As the generations unfolded, Scripture shows two very different directions. Cain’s descendants drifted further into rebellion, producing men like Lamech who normalized violence and practices outside of God’s design. But Adam and Eve’s son, Seth, raised a line that actually sought God. Genesis 4:26 (NLT) says, “When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh. At that time people first began to worship the LORD by name.” Another of Seth’s descendants, Enoch, walked so closely with God that “he disappeared, because God took him.” (Genesis 5:24 NLT). Through that righteous line came Methuselah, then Lamech, and finally Noah. Genesis 6:9 says that Noah was a righteous man, and that he was the only blameless person living during his time. This is a clear sign that even in a corrupt world, God was preserving a pathway for His promise.

Why Darkness Had to Be Confronted

Over time, corruption spread across the earth. People abandoned God’s ways, violence filled the land, and even spiritual beings crossed boundaries God never intended, just as Genesis 6 describes. Humanity drifted deeper into sin, and darkness began covering everything God created with purpose.

So the question comes up: Why the flood? Why did wickedness have to be cut off? Scripture gives us a clue about God’s nature. 1 John 1:5 (NLT) says, “God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.” God’s holiness cannot be compromised, and His purposes cannot be derailed. If evil had continued without limit, the line that would one day bring Christ into the world would have been completely overtaken. The flood wasn’t random judgment — it was God stepping in to protect His promise, preserve righteousness, and keep the path open for redemption.

Jesus Christ — The Light We Can Approach

This is why knowing Jesus is so important to understanding God’s Will. John 1 tells us Jesus is the Word, the Creator, and the Light that shines in the darkness. John 1:4–5 (NLT) says, “The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”

Our Heavenly Father is pure love—a light so intense that He is a consuming fire. 1 Timothy 6:16 (NLT) declares, “He lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him.” But Jesus — the Word made flesh — brings that light to us in a form we can receive. Through Him, we see God’s heart, God’s plan, and God’s promises up close.

From Genesis to Jesus, one truth stands strong: God never missed a beat. His plan has always been perfect. His promises have always been intentional. And just as He protected the promise back then, He is still working out His purpose in our lives today. God’s light is stronger than any darkness around you, and His plan for you has never once fallen off track. ■
